Information for prospective candidates

European elections

Haringey forms part of the London Region for the European Parliament. If you’re interested in standing in the European elections, you must be aged 18 or older and be a British, Commonwealth, Irish or other European Union citizen resident in the UK or Gibraltar at the time of your nomination and on polling day.

You are disqualified from standing as a European Parliament candidate if you are:

  • a member of the UK Government
  • a member of certain European bodies, including the Government of any other Member State, the European Commission, certain positions in the European Central Bank and Court of Justice (a full list is available from the Electoral Commission)
  • are disqualified from becoming a member of the UK Parliament. It is also an offence to give consent to be nominated in more than one Member State or electoral region
